Roy Clay. Roy Clay Sr., the “Godfather of Silicon Valley,”
Roy Clay's contribution to the field of technology by paving the way for how we today navigate the technology around us. He is esteemed as a pioneer for African Americans in technology. One of his most note-worthy accomplishments was developing transformative computer software far before later innovators like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. Roy was inspired to pursue his career in technology despite the obstacles he faced as a man of color in the field of technology. He was fueled by the urge to help others is uppermost in the mind of Roy L. Clay Sr., a computer science pioneer who grew up in the Jim Crow-era South and helped bring the personal computer age into existence. Mr. Clay Sr. once expressed this sentiment “My sole interest is to work with young black males to encourage them to learn how to do things well.” To combat racial bias in computing and technology today we must do all we can to amplify
